A fine unmarked silver example – burnished silver quoit with engraved edge mounted with thistle wreath, bearing 22 battle honours to Central India (he later upgraded to 28 with Tel-al-Kabir.
Mounted to the centre, a cut silver Star of the Order of the Thistle: mounted on the Star, a gilt scroll ‘Assaye’ with the Elephant in Gilt below. Stout pin to reverse which bears contemporary engraving A.C.Grant Sear. VGC.
Worn by Captain, (later) Colonel Alan Colquhoun GRANT, who joined 2nd Bn HLI in Fyzabad in 1893. He served at various stations and on the NW Frontier. He was appointed to the Egyptian Army and later joined the Soudan Service. He was awarded the India General Service Medal with clasp, he served on the Nile Expedition (Egypt Medal & Clasp) WW1 War & Victory Medals and mentioned in Despatches.
