t/o 21.13 hours Syerston in the Parish of Flintham, near Newark.
Shot down by a night-fighter the Pilot was Hauptman Rudolf Altendorf, I/NJG4. The Lancaster crashed at 04.30 hrs to the South of Givry (Hainault) 10 km SE of Mons, Belgium.
All crew were buried on 18th April in Chievres Communal Cemetary. Their average age wqas 22.
Unusually for an RAF squadron, their flight Engineer was an Australian.
Flight Sergeant Edwards DFM was Gazetted on 14 May 1943.
D.F.M. award – rec. 2 April 1943 – Exemplary devotion to duty – 52 Sorties / 46 successful/ as Wireless Operator and Air Gunner.
